Cyclone Remal: Landfall has started in West Bengal and Bangladesh due to cyclone Remal. Heavy rains are falling in many parts of Bengal. IMD said that the process of landfall has started in the coastal areas of Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal, it will continue for the next 4 hours. Indian Navy and NDRF teams are on alert mode regarding cyclone Remal.
According to the IMD, Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal coasts will have maximum wind speeds of 110-120 kmph by midnight today. The cyclone is expected to cross Bangladesh between 12:00-1:00 am, after which it is expected to weaken.
IMD gave information about cyclone Remal
According to news agency PTI, a spokesperson of the Meteorological Office said that the cyclone has started crossing the West Bengal coast of India through the southwestern part of Mongla and Khepupara coast of Bangladesh at around 8:30 pm (local time). He said that the storm is moving northward from the southwestern coastal areas of Bangladesh and Sagar Island of West Bengal and is likely to cross the coastlines in the next five to seven hours.

Lakhs of people were taken to safe places
Severe cyclonic storm Remal hit Bangladesh coast on Sunday night and authorities have evacuated more than 8 lakh people from the low-lying south-western coastal areas of the country. Apart from this, the West Bengal government has evacuated about 1.10 lakh people from coastal areas including Sundarban and Sagar Island and shifted them to safer places.
PM Modi had a meeting
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi had held a meeting to review the preparations made to deal with the cyclonic storm Ramal. The cyclone is expected to hit the coast between Bangladesh and its neighboring state West Bengal around midnight. The severe cyclone has caused heavy rains in the coastal districts of West Bengal and Kolkata.
